El Loco, Surry Hills

Our statistics exam ended at 4pm, and by the time we got to the front of Randwick Racecourse, we decided that we should reward ourselves with something to eat- there's nothing better than celebrating with food! Without much thought, we settled on El Loco, which is still the go-to place for fun Mexican food.

Since some of us were still under 18, we got take away and ate at a nearby park.

Here we have all the tacos, including the pollo chicken, camaron prawn, carne asada beef and al pastor pork- $5 each. The chicken taco was good; the soft pieces of tasty chicken that were covered with a generous sprinkling of corn ended up being quite a nice combo. However, it was the pork taco that was my favourite; the deliciously smoky pork pieces that were hidden beneath the sweet but tangy salsa proved to be quite the party in my mouth (and unfortunately, a bit of this party ended up on the ground because I'm embarrassingly uncoordinated).

Definitely a tad messy to eat, but with intense flavours and relatively cheap prices, who cares!

Bourke Street Bakery, Surry Hills

After our first uni exam, we had absolutely no clue on where to catch the bus that went back to Central- and this was despite the fact that I had previously been told about where the stop was (you should have seen us- a massive crowd of first years following each other and ending up at a dead end in a make shift car park haha. We now know where to catch the bus though!) Eventually, we found our way, but after waiting for ages we decided to just walk back to the city and grab lunch along the way. Bourke Street Bakery enjoys near legendary status in Sydney for having some of the best baked goodies. I've actually been here before with my cousin and tried their tarts that time (mmmm delicious lemon tarts), so it made sense to try their savoury range, especially since it was lunch time!

Nick chooses the Beef Pie- when he cut it open you could see all the beef pieces nestled inside; it looked so good. You can imagine how great the food tasted when both of us finished eating in a matter of minutes.

Pork and Fennel Sausage Roll. This is not your average sausage roll- it tasted amazing, with magically delicate pastry and super yummy mince inside. Had no idea what the seeds inside the roll were until I realised that they were fennel seeds- because you know, I was eating a Pork and Fennel sausage roll XD

Loved the fact that the people here were so friendly; it's a nice factor in addition to the awesome food that they offer. As you probably would have heard, lines are long during peak times, so if possible, try coming before or after those times- we rocked up at 12:15 on a Friday and there were only 2 people in line!
